FAQs

  • Lymphatic massage, also known as Manual lymphatic drainage, is a specialised form of massage that focuses on stimulating the lymphatic system. It involves gentle, rhythmic movements, techniques and pumps designed to encourage lymph flow, enhance lymphatic circulation, and promote the removal of toxins, waste, and excess fluid from the body.

The lymphatic system is responsible for maintaining the body's fluid balance, transportation of nutrients and minerals to the tissues of the body, filtering potentially harmful waste, metabolic toxins; and supporting immune function. However, the lymphatic system does not have a pump like the heart in the circulatory system, so when it's impaired, that fluid in an around the cells gets stuck, delaying the body's ordinary functionality and causing swelling, lethargy, tiredness, heavy legs, and inflammation.

During our sessions, light pressure and rhythmic movements are used in specific areas of the body, following the natural flow of the lymphatic vessels. These techniques help to open up the pathways, promote the drainage of stagnation and reduce systemic inflammation and swelling.

  • Lymphatic massage is not a new fad! The importance of the lymphatic system has been known for thousands of years in the East and is often the first system targeted when it comes to most illnesses, disease and rejuvenation.

Now, we live in a world where avoiding the toxic onslaught is near impossible. Our bodies are in a constant battle processing everything and eventually can only handle so much before it starts to break down; our innate ability to repair and regenerate simply isn’t possible.

Common lifestyle habits and unfortunately our environment today impede the proper functioning of the system; but it’s not only external toxins like processed foods, pesticides, pollution, chemicals in products that effect us.

Our body sheds billions of cells a day that need to be eliminated(our own cellular waste can become toxic to us if the system is already overburdened and not pumping efficiently!).

The key to addressing this external and internal waste is Lymph.

    Heres why:

    1. Sedentary Lifestyle: Many people lead sedentary lifestyles, spending long hours sitting or being physically inactive. Or doing the same kind of movement over and over. Lack of movement hampers lymphatic flow as the lymphatic system relies on muscle contractions and movement to propel lymph fluid throughout the body. Massage can help compensate for the lack of natural movement and assist in lymph drainage.

    2. Poor Diet: Consuming a diet high in processed foods, unhealthy fats, and refined sugars can contribute to a build-up of toxins and waste products in the body. The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in removing these toxins, but an overload of waste can overload the system, leading to sluggish lymphatic flow. Lymphatic massage can aid in toxin elimination and support the body's natural detoxification processes.

    3. Stress and Inflammation: Chronic stress and inflammation can impair the lymphatic system's function, as stress hormones and inflammation can affect circulation. Lymphatic massage can help reduce stress, promote relaxation, and alleviate inflammation, supporting the optimal functioning of the lymphatic system.

    4. Surgery or Injury: Surgical procedures and injuries can cause trauma to the lymphatic system, resulting in swelling, fluid retention, and impaired lymphatic flow. Lymphatic massage is commonly used as part of the recovery process to reduce swelling, promote healing, and restore proper lymphatic function.

    5. Lymphedema: Lymphedema is a condition characterised by swelling, typically in the arms or legs, due to a compromised lymphatic system. Lymphatic massage is a key component of lymphedema management and can help reduce swelling, enhance lymphatic drainage, and improve overall comfort.

By receiving lymphatic massage, individuals can benefit from the manual stimulation of lymph flow, which aids in the removal of metabolic waste, toxins, excess fluid, and supports cellular regeneration. Lymphatic massage helps optimise the functioning of the lymphatic system, supporting overall health, immune function, and well-being.

  • The benefits of lymphatic drainage are extensive, mainly in the transport and removal of stagnant fluids, but it also:

    • Enhances overall circulation and tissue regeneration (which helps deliver oxygen, nutrients, and glucose to the cells, including the nerves. This can promote optimal cellular function and support the nervous system)

    • Weight Loss and Cellulite Reduction (Fat cells store toxins to protect the vital tissues in the body, By promoting drainage and toxin elimination, lymphatic massage can potentially aid in breaking down fat cells and reducing cellulite, making it easier for the body to shed excess weight).

    • Reduced Water Retention A full body de-bloat by encouraging the removal of excess fluids. This can contribute to a slimmer and more toned appearance.

    • Improved Skin Health Lymphatic massage can contribute to healthier skin by promoting the removal of toxins and waste products. It may also enhance the delivery of nutrients and oxygen to the skin cells, resulting in a clearer, more radiant complexion.

    • Relaxation and Stress Reduction: The gentle, rhythmic movements and Vagus Nerve stimulation helps promote deep relaxation, which can help reduce stress and anxiety. Not only that - the brain can become flooded with toxins also! Draining the brain can help to prevent and address Neurological disorders and mental health conditions!

    • Boosts the Immune System: Enhances the body's defence against pathogens, and strengthen overall immunity.

    • Improves digestion

    • Supports faster muscle recovery to aid with exercise.

    • Helps address sleep concerns.

  • Lymphatic massage is a full body rejuvenation; expect to feel more contoured, lighter, energised and have more mobility in certain areas that you didn’t previously have.

Prepare to feel more into the body —it’s not a Swedish massage, it’s definitely deeper.

Note: Lymphatic Massage is a detox, be prepared to pee more, as lymph starts moving properly; but because you will need to hydrate post-massage to help flush the body.

  • Since you’re promoting proper lymph movement—something your body is meant to do naturally—there is little risk with lymphatic drainage. However, you want to make sure you’re doing it properly and in the right direction otherwise things could get worse!

As this is a heavy detox, if your body is suffering from inflammation and burdened you may experience big detox symptoms like: Fogginess, lethargy, tiredness, headaches, a little achy-ness.

However, this is something we try to avoid, so that you’re left feeling great and ready to take on the world! Moving into the system slowly is important (hit the body hard and it will fight back - leaving you worse off). To get the full benefits i recommend multiple sessions, gradually strip the body of waste and gear it to work for, not against you.
