Self-Perception, Lymphatics, and the Immune System
A lot of us are questioning why we don’t feel like we’re getting better. Why aren’t we losing weight? Why aren’t we healing? Why do we still feel like we’re not the version of ourselves we want to be, even though we’re doing all the “right” things?
You eat well, you exercise, you take supplements, you even tap and rub the lymphatic system—but you’re still confused, wading through persistent symptoms or dealing with a new diagnosis.
I’m writing this because many of us share this same story, myself included. All those 30-day water fasts, juice detoxes, supplements, and hours of exercising left me thinking about how I felt initially, I didn't like myself. It was a never-ending cycle of the next best thing. Thankfully I caught it all early on.
Here’s the thing: the way you think, the stories you tell yourself, and how you perceive the world—through the filtered lens of your experiences—all influence your immune system, brain function, and ultimately every system in your body.
I promise you, your body and brain are not against you. They’re an interactive terrain, constantly trying to protect you. But your body knows when you’re not you and will react accordingly, often in defence.
Let me break it down.
When you’re not living the life you want, feeling buried under layers of masks, not feeling accepted because of the stories others tell, and unable to take action due to how you think and see yourself in the world, impacts you more than you realise.
I’m not talking about "woo woo" placebo, mind-over matter stuff. These things trigger a chain of chemical reactions in the body and your physiology has to deal with them, meaning process, regulate and eliminate them.
Imagine this happening every movement of every day - On average we think around 60,000 thoughts a day, and statistically, for most of us 75% of these thoughts are negative, and 95% are repetitive.
Considering chronic stress being one of the leading causes of chronic health issues I think it’s safe to say most of us are creating a pretty predictable future if we’re not already there.
So, the answer, your self-perception mindset, and the tiny lens through which you view everything or respond are triggering and dictating how you function and what is going to happen in your future.. Regardless of whether you wake in the morning and are consciously aware of everything as it is, or not.
Why? Your lymph system gets clogged, your immune system is overburdened and your brain function takes a hit which means you don't heal and regenerate.
The Lymphatic System: Your Hidden Superpower
Your lymphatic system is your body’s unsung hero, quietly working behind the scenes to remove metabolic waste and deliver the essential minerals and nutrients that nourish every system.
But it can only work with what it has. If your body is stuck in survival mode—constantly reacting to stress, negative environments, old stories, or self-criticism—it can’t function efficiently meaning you can’t either. No matter how much you stimulate the lymphatics, eat clean, rebound, or exercise, the real healing begins when you address you.
To heal, you need to go beyond surface-level changes. You have to change how you think about yourself. Become aware of how much you trash talk yourself, how much you suppress who you truly are because you're afraid others won’t understand. What belief systems and social interactions do or don’t serve you. Take the time to discover how your learned perceptions are framing your reality and dictating your reactions. That’s where the real healing and transformation begin.
So, What Can You Do?
It starts with taking control of your perception—both of yourself and your stressors. Working with your lymphatic system helps build stronger coping mechanisms and flips those inflammatory responses that have been holding you back. This isn’t just a mindset shift; it’s biochemical.
Look at your belief systems. What do you live by? What are your boundaries? What’s your inner dialogue saying? It might be time to re-script your story and adopt a new philosophy that heals the lens you see the world through.
Here’s the hard truth: stop blaming your body, your genetics, or your personality. They’re not betraying you. In fact, they’re doing everything they can to protect you with the tools they’ve been given. But you need to give them the right tools: change your inner dialogue, create environments that support you, and start focusing on what makes you feel like yourself.
